Our class will read three of the novels listed below:
The Outsiders by SE Hinton
Animal Farm by George Orwell
The Pearl by John Steinbeck
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
The Pigman by Paul Zindel
The Wave by Todd Strasser
Humanities-Based Argumentative Research Project
Students will write a research essay that uses relevant evidence and analysis to support a humanities-based topic. The following research skills will be emphasized:
Quarterly Reading Project:
Students are to read one independent novel (outside of class) each marking period. A writing assignment and/or oral presentation will be completed at the end of each quarter.

- The importance of a strong thesis statement
- MLA formatting for in-text citations
- Google's EasyBib Works Cited application
